Is Journey a real medical practice?

Who is eligible to use Journey?

You must be at least 18 years old and a US resident physically located in a state where a Journey-affiliated clinician is licensed at the time of your visit. Clinicians generally consider GLP-1 treatment for adults with a BMI of 30 or greater, or 27 or greater with a weight-related condition. See the Eligibility page for full criteria.

Which states do you serve?

Journey serves 48 US states and does not serve South Carolina & California. Availability of a specific clinician or medication depends on your state of residence at the time of evaluation.

Question 4

Will I always get a prescription if I complete the intake?

Accepted Answer

No. A prescription is only issued if a US-licensed clinician determines that treatment is appropriate based on your medical history, current health, and goals. Submitting an intake does not guarantee a prescription.

What medications do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Journey clinicians may prescribe compounded GLP-1 medications (including semaglutide and tirzepatide formulations) when clinically appropriate. Compounded medications are prepared by licensed US compounding pharmacies under the supervision of healthcare providers and are not FDA-approved. Available medications depend on your state, clinical eligibility, and clinician judgment. We do not dispense controlled substances.

What are the most important safety risks of GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 receptor agonists carry a Boxed Warning for the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use if you or a family member has a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Other serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, hypoglycemia (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, allergic reactions, and changes in vision. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. See the Important Safety Information page and the FDA Medication Guide for your medication.

Who should not take GLP-1 medications?

Treatment is generally not appropriate if you have a personal or family history of MTC or MEN 2, are pregnant or breastfeeding, planning pregnancy within two months, have a history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease, type 1 diabetes, an active eating disorder, or have had a serious allergic reaction to a GLP-1 medication. This list is not exhaustive — your clinician makes the final determination.

Where does my medication come from?

All medications are dispensed by independent, US-licensed pharmacies registered with the appropriate state boards of pharmacy. Journey is not a pharmacy and does not manufacture, compound, or dispense medication directly.

Question 9

How can I verify my clinician's license?

Accepted Answer

The name, credentials, and state of licensure of the clinician assigned to your care are displayed in your patient portal and on any prescription. You can independently verify any US physician's license at docinfo.org or through your state's medical, nursing, or PA licensing board.

Do you accept insurance?

Journey does not accept insurance directly. We provide superbills on request that you may submit to your insurance carrier for possible reimbursement.

Can I cancel anytime?

Is my information private?

What if I have a medical emergency?

Journey is not designed for medical emergencies. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
